This blog is mostly about not very nice experiences with online dating. In Acapulco, I quickly arranged a date with a 30-year-old woman who also dressed very sensually on Instagram. We met at a bar, had a few beers, shared travel stories, and exchanged kisses—soon enough, we were on our way to an hourly hotel. I was a bit suspicious because things moved so fast, and I wondered if I was about to get robbed.
That didn’t happen, and after our brief, enjoyable time together, I returned to my hostel. What I didn’t know—and only found out later—was that my companion was trans and had undergone comprehensive gender affirmation surgery. The next day, we met again and said goodbye at the bus station, where I was catching a bus to Mexico City. She was delighted that I said farewell so kindly. At the time, I didn’t fully understand the whole situation. Maybe I am still confused.
